Last Act of the Lost Hat

As he fumbles with his collared coat
The wind lifts me up off the head of this bloke
In panic reaching he loses the umbrella too
See ya later… bumbling fool
What an unwinding!
I am free, finally!
In the rain, I am dancing, singing
I am mother fucking Gene Kelley
This storm is my manic musical
Spotlight on me, Jesus, I'm beautiful!
These are my moments
Wherever I float, that's where the show is
This is no sleight of hand, hat with rabbit
I am that actual magic
Fox trot through the crosswalk
Knocking your shocked socks off
Beneath, water swirls, subtly
While, in the puddle, I pirouette, perfectly
With all eyes on me
I pivot flawlessly
Upswing into the air, undulating
Careful careening with the crowd congregating
Appreciating the choregraphed dance routine
Emotion through movement like they’ve never seen
The climax to the dance, downward, I am spiraling
Stick the landing, impeccable placement
Let me hear that, standing ovation
I might have been a one act wonder
But no one's ever been
Both lightning
And
Thunder
A little like Muhammad Ali
You remember a legend like me
Hollywood’s new number one celebrity
Final act of this last dance story
Let's just say, hats off for me
Fade to black
The curtain’s calling
