October 5th revisited

My (still) broken heart insisted it

I suppose, if you must know

Your ghost was a no show

Not what I anticipated

So I waited......

For something profound

Sat with the leaves on the ground

Tried to empty my mind of thought

Let go of questions with answers sought

I didn't meditate or pray

I just laid where you laid

That bright autumn day

Where we made the break

And drifted away

I looked up at the same trees

Same branches, different leaves

Different and same are the boy and the girl

It's the "different" part that changed my whole world

Here I lay in the same place

Same tears on the same face

One year ago

The same day

And suddenly, your ghost was here

Out of the air it appeared

But didn't speak

Just listened

As I listed

All the ways

This love

Persisted
